Happy Memorial 3-Day Weekend! (Post 21 5/27/2013)

Welcome Haunters to the Memorial Day Weekend Blog!

The Yard of Terror Crew hopes everyone had a Safe and Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

The Yard of Terror Crew was at it again with venturing to the local parks this weekend. We were able to explore 4 different parks over our 3-Day Memorial Day weekend! Our first stop was at Iroquois Park in Louisville, KY. We were able to make it up to the top of the park and check out the Overlook at the park. While at the Overlook you can see almost the whole park, different sites in the area like hospitals, churches, and warehouses. You even get a look at the Downtown Louisville skyline! (See our Pictures Below:)

Our next stop was at Salt River Park in Shepherdsville, KY. We didn't do much at this park due to the weather being a little chilly. We did however have a little problem happen that we won't go into to details on our blog. Don't worry nothing extremely bad happened to our Crew, well except one person, who's name will not be mentioned. :) Like I mentioned, we wanted to go wading in the Salt River but due to the weather and the river being up we decided not to. We did spot a crane on our adventure, it was pretty cool to see!

Our next stop was the new Big 4 Bridge Walk down at Waterfront Park in Louisville, KY. This was our second time walking across this new Old Train Bridge turned Walking/Biking Bridge. This was a Majorly Awesomely Cool addition to Waterfront Park that Louisville opened this year. This bridge is always busy with people walking across it. The bridge spans over the Ohio River. Walkers or Bikers start on the Kentucky side and can walk or ride all the way across to the Indiana side! (See our Pictures Below:)

Our last adventure was at Jefferson Memorial Park in Fairdale, KY. Only one person from our Crew went on this trip with me. The weather was nice out on Monday-Memorial Day so we decided to take a hike through the forest and see what we could discover. Along our way we came across a pond that was filled with tadpoles and frogs! We continued our hike and came across the Education Center and their education areas, this was actually pretty cool to see. We did however find that we had all kinds of Ticks on our legs and feet when we got home. :( Ticks should be added to the evil Halloween Monsters List :) (See our Pictures Below:)

We end our Blog with a cool Halloween Candy Trick-or-Treat Pumpkin planter that Robert from our building crew made over the weekend and planted some orange petunias in it!

Till next time folks Happy Haunting and Keep it Spooky!

Chilling with the Yard of Terror Crew (Post 20 5/21/2013)

Welcome Haunters to another Yard of Terror Blog. What a weekend! The weather was finally nice enough to enjoy a trip to the park with a few close friends of ours! Who are these close friends of ours you may ask, why it's our crew from the Yard of Terror! Over the weekend I met up with a few people from our haunt crew and went to the Falls of the Ohio State Park and Seneca Park. The photo you see above was taken on our adventure along the Ohio River at the Falls of the Ohio State Park. I thought these flowers were so awesome! Check out the colors, see Halloween is all around us! Even nature loves Halloween! :)

Like I mentioned above our adventure began at the Falls of the Ohio. We visit this park a lot during the Spring and Summer time. The views of the Ohio River are amazing from this park! (See pictures below):

You can also find some pretty cool old fossils there and even some gems if you have a good eye. We came across some very strange sights as well. Along our hike we found bones of some sort, we are hoping they were animal bones, they were washed up in the rocks and gravel so surely they came from the river. We also came across some old foundation of what use to be a house and found a rock pile that reminded us of something off of "Blair Witch Project". (See Rock Formation below):

After leaving the Falls of the Ohio our adventure continued when we met a few more people from our crew at Seneca Park. This was my favorite places we ventured to over the weekend! We did some major hiking at Seneca Park! Along our hike we seen all kinds of sights. (See pictures below):

We had quite an adventurous weekend with our crew. Well folks hope everyone was able to enjoy the great weather over the weekend. Speaking of weather our Prayers go out to all the families in the towns of Oklahoma that were destroyed by the deadly tornados over the past few days. Mother nature can be very Wicked when she wants to be. Till next time folks Keep it Spooky and Happy Haunting!

Happy Mother's Day (Post 19 5/12/13)

Welcome Haunters and Happy Mother's Day! Hope all the Mother's had a great Mother's Day this year! I spent my day building my Mother a flower garden. I decided to surprise her this year with a flower garden instead of a pot of flowers :) She LOVED it...you can see the final project below:

Didn't do much over the weekend. Was one of those weekends where all you want to do is be lazy...lol I am still planning out what all I want to do with the haunt this year. I am still thinking of which project to begin first. I may begin on putting the black plastic on my panel frames and get those stored away so that I can check off the #1 priority off my list. I can't wait till opening night aka Halloween! We are only 172 days away till Halloween 2013! We are almost half way to Halloween!

Well folks time to go for now, got to get ready to get back into the 9-5 :) Till next time Keep it Spooky and Happy Haunting and Happy Mother's Day!

Run for the Roses...Orb Wins! (Post 18 5/6/13)

Welcome Haunters to the Yard of Terror weekly Blog! What a crazy weekend here in the State of Kentucky! Friday we had the Oaks Race and Saturday was the Derby! The Derby is one of the biggest races in Horse Racing History and we live in the city it all takes place in! Congrats to Orb who has won the 139th Kentucky Derby and as you can see is wearing the Garland of Roses!

I thought it was so crazy that a horse named Orb won the KY Derby! Hey Orb is Halloween related... :) Have to say we had a pretty eventful Derby day around our apartment. Had to call the Cops on an alcoholic that tried to find his car keys on our neighbors porch! Yes that's right, some intoxicated guy came stumbling down the road, well I think he drove up and parked in our parking lot, but we caught him throwing our neighbors mail everywhere, fumbling through fake flowers and even took an empty vase and poured it on his head as if it had water in it! Yea we had to call the Cops cause he then tried to tear up our flower garden! The cops did nothing of course, they have gotten fed up with our neighborhood I guess (my neighborhood, not my dads where our haunt is).

In other news I am getting ready to have my 24th Birthday on May 8th! I am excited!!! Can't wait! We will be attending an 80's Zombie Themed party on Saturday to celebrate a buddy of ours and my Birthdays. We will have pictures of all the Zombies we can catch! :)

Well folks it has been a crazy weekend and I have another one planned for this coming weekend so until next time Keep it Spooky and Happy Haunting! Feel free to Follow us on Facebook or post your comments below, we would love to hear from you!

Wicked Hot Air Ballon, Lords of Salem and Flower Gardens (Post 17 4/30/13)

Welcome Haunters to another Yard of Terror Blog! What an eventful weekend it has been! We were pretty busy this past weekend, the reason I am late posting our Blog. So let us begin!

The eventful weekend started Friday night when we attended the Kentucky Derby Festival Balloon Glow! As you can see above we discovered that this year there was a Wicked hot air balloon in the mix. This balloon was AMAZING! What better way to show off the some what spookiness of the Halloween season than a Wicked balloon! The balloon pilots were even handing out Wicked Balloon pins to pin to your shirt. I was one of the lucky guests to receive a pin! :) I have to say this was my favorite balloon at the Balloon Glow this year! It was really pretty when it lit up at night as well.

Our next eventful journey  happened Saturday when we went to see the new Rob Zombie film, "Lords of Salem". I have to say this movie is very good! It is surely a true Rob Zombie style horror film. I would give it 4/5 Stars. I would not recommend Children under the age of 16 see this movie however. The movie had lots of  nude scenes and was graphic and bloody at certain points. There were also the classic "make you jump" sound effects as well, heck it made me jump I won't lie...lol It was a truly good horror film from the great Rob Zombie!

Our weekend ended with a flower planting fest! :) The weather has finally started to come around and allowing us to do more Spring like events outside so we decided to plant our annual flower bed with some flowers we have been collecting over the past few weeks. I have to say I am very pleased at how it turned out. We have been getting many comments and Likes on Facebook about the pictures we have posted of the final project.

Everyone at the Yard of Terror hopes you were able to get out and enjoy this great weather we have been waiting on for awhile! Let us know below how you spent your weekend in the beautiful weather, we would love to hear it! Till next time folks Keep it Spooky and Happy Haunting!

This is an event that is a must see if it comes to a city near you for sure!!!

Transworld 2013 ( Post 11 3/15/13)

Welcome Haunters to another Yard of Terror Blog! As many of you know Transworld was last week so I have lots to tell and show you all! I didn't post a blog last week due to being at the show. I have to say the show ROCKED!!! I had a blast with everyone that went with our crew. Can't wait till next year!

This was my first time at Transworld and I was like a kid lost in a candy store! Oooo look at this, ooo look at that, lol that what I was saying the whole time while on the showroom floor. It was truely a haunters dream come true! There was so much to see from props to masks to awesome makeup ideas and more!

I did get some great ideas for the Yard of Terror as well! Going to Transworld got me ready to start planning for this years haunt! Once the weather starts getting warmer the building will begin! Be on the look for some ideas for this years haunt to start popping up.

Another awesome thing that happened while at Transworld was that most of the famous people that were at the show were staying in our hotel! I got to meet a few stars from FaceOff, they included Glen Hetrick, House, Anthony from this season, Beki Ingram, Ian Cromer, and Roy Wooley. I was also able to meet the guys from Distortions. I even seen Gunner Hansen walking around our hotel! I just thought it was crazy how all the famous people were partying in our hotel!

There were endless isles of things to see, almost too much stuff that it would take a day to tell someone everything we saw. That's where pictures come in to play...lol Over the next few blog posts I will start posting pictures from the show to give everyone a peak at what all was at Transworld 2013, I may even throw in a video or two.

Well Haunters untill next time Happy Haunting and Keep it Spooky! Hope everyone enjoys the video and pictures I have provided! There are many more to come so stay tuned!

Sinister Movie Review (Post 10 3/3/13)

Welcome Haunters to another Yard of Terror weekend Blog! Hope everyone had a good weekend so far, and has stayed inside from this everlasting cold weather! On this weeks blog I will be reviewing the movie Sinister.

I have to start off by saying that I would have to give this movie 4/5 stars. The movie seemed to be an ok movie. There wasn't a lot of scare factor in the movie, it seemed to be more a mystery thriller to me. There were parts that would startle the audience but as far as major scares, they just weren't in this movie. The story line is pretty crazy though. Have to give the movie two thumbs up for representing Kentucky in the movie "Kentucky Blood" book...you have to watch the movie to understand it...I don't want to give to much of the movie away for those who haven't watched it.

Well haunters only 5 more days till Yard of Terror is off to Transworld! Be on the look out for a Transworld blog post either the weekend I go "March 8th - 10th" or the weekend after. I am sure I will have lots of photos and possibly videos to share with everyone on my return home from the showroom floor. I will also be seeing the sights of St.Louis as well.

Well Haunters it's time to say goodbye for now...Happy Haunting and Keep it Spooky!

Room Design for 2013 Revealed! (Post 9 2/24/13)

Welcome Haunters to another Yard of Terror Blog. Sorry once again for posting the Blog late again. The weeks have been very long here lately. As many of you have read the Blog title, and have seen the picture above i have went ahead and released one of my room designs for the 2013 season!

The Butcher Shop will return for the 2013 season but will be bloodier than ever! For 2013 I plan to give the butcher shop it's very own walk through room, where over the past few seasons it has just been displayed on my porch.

In the past I have played the Butcher, I may play that character again this year, but I have not decided. The Butcher Shop room has to be one of my favorite areas to build! I can't wait to design a whole room design this year for the crazy Butcher!

Be on the look out for more room designs to be reveled over the next seven months as we get closer to Halloween night! Building has not yet begun as the weather has not been warm enough to be out side, but once Spring rolls around the building shall begin.

Till next time Haunters, Happy Haunting and Keep it Spooky!

Haunt Design Kit (Post 8 2/16/13)

Welcome Haunters to another Yard of Terror Blog, sorry for posting this a day late, this week has been a very very long week, heck we even had a holiday. Happy late Valentine's Day everyone! Hope everyone had a good week and a great Valentine's Day.

I bet your wondering what the picture I postd above is, well last night I was on Facebook and on the side of the screen I came across a small icon that read "Haunt Design Kit", I was curious so I clicked on it and came upon this website:  http://www.hauntdesignkit.com/# What I descovered was pretty cool! This website allows you to download certain items to build your haunt in a 3D model in Google Sketch Up.

I plan on using this site since I already have Google Sketch Up on my computer, I rarely use it but I have it so why not put it to use. Below I have posted a picture of just a few of the items that you can  download from the Haunt Design Kit website to design your 3D model:

This website software will help me out a lot when planning the Yard of Terror this year. Like I keep mentioning I will soon post my plans for the 2013 season soon so keep your eyes open. Well my fellow haunters I hope that you check out the really awesome website that I posted in this Blog this week, and can't wait to start using it myself.

Till next time Happy haunting and Keep it Spooky!

TGIF...Welcome Haunters! It's finally Friday!!! Hope everyone had an awesome week and is ready for some Haunt build news!!!

That's right...Haunt Build News for 2013! All week long I have been getting ideas popping up in my head of room designs, props I want/want to build and more! I have to Thank Troy from the Halloween Hellmouth Yard Haunt Vlogs on YouTube for getting my 2013 ideas flowing. I view Troy's Vlog everday and get some pretty cool ideas here and there from Troy, Lori-Lee and the other subscribers on his channel. I would definitely recommend  subscribing to Troy's Halloween Hellmouth YouTube channel is you are a Yard or Home Haunter! Type Halloween Hellmouth in the YouTube search bar and it will lead you to his channel. Thanks again Troy for Vloging everyday!

I don't want to give away to much just yet of what I have in store for 2013 just yet. We are however stepping up the scares in 2013 for sure! Ok I can't keep it in I have to tell you one prop we plan on buying this year for the Haunt. Arter visiting SpiritHalloween.com I spotted an awesome animatronic rop that I must buy this year for the haunt! (Rosemary Zombie Girl Animated Prop) : http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/tt-rosemary-zombie-girl/

This prop is Bad A** for sure! I have so many great ideas going through my head of what I can design around this prop! I will surely let everyone know what I have in store at a later time.

Another prop that I would like to build this year is a Mausoleum for my Graveyard. I will let you all know for the 2013 Yard Haunt I plan on moving the Graveyard to a bigger are, more details to follow on where also at a later time.

Well Haunters I need to hop off here, don't want to spill too many beans for 2013 just yet. :)  Hope everyone has a Fun and Safe weekend...Till next time Happy Haunting everyone!

Hotel Transylvania Friday! (Post 6 2/1/13)

Welcome Haunters! Hope everyone had a great week and was safe from all the crazy weather we've been having!

Yard of Terror was un able to be on this weeks HauntersTalkMayhem due to personal issues this week. We do however plan to be on the show in the near future. I had to serve a few days of Jury Duty and had some other issues. I will keep everyone posted when we plan to be on the show.

If you are wondering why I have posted the photo above of the banner from banner from the movie Hotel Transylvania, it is because I watched this movie today and have to give it two thumbs up! The movie was very cute and reminded me so much of  Halloween! I won't spoil it for anyone but it is a must see among us haunters!

I'm going to make this a short Blog this week, sorry for the inconvenience, it has been a very long week for me. Hope you all have a spooky and fun weekend and we shall see you next week.

Let the Planning Begin! (Post 4 1/18/13)

Welcome Haunters...It has been a very long week! Glad that it is finally Friday!
Hope everyone had a good week and did lots of Halloween related activities... :)

Well over the past couple of weeks I have been sitting around planning out what all I want to do for the Yard of Terror 13! Lots of ideas have been floating around and some are set in stone. I am not sure when I will do the big reveal just yet...I have to let the suspense build a little...lol But no, I have drawn out the design for the haunt and have been brainstorming some ideas for the rooms. I will let all my haunt blog followers be the first ones to know what is in store for 2013!

On the Transworld side of things, I booked my room for the weekend in St. Louis and have also received my travelers guide to St. Louis so that I can explore the city a little bit while we are there. I can't wait till Transworld it will be so much fun! I'm sure I will also get some great ideas for the Yard of Terror as well while at the show.

Sorry for the some what short blog tonight...not a lot going on with the haunt at the moment. Our monsters are on their so called "Vacation". But don't worry they have also been gearing themselves up for 2013!

If you would like to know more about the Yard of Terror or have any questions for me, please feel free to send me an email at yardofterror@gmail.com

Yard of Terror is going to Transworld! (Post 3 1/11/13)

Well it's official Yard of Terror is heading to Transworld this March! I was invited to tag along with the haunted corn maze that I work for every year, Field of Screams, and could not turn down this opportunity!  This will be my first time ever getting to visit a Haunters Convention! I can't wait to see all the props, make up ideas, and more. Heck I may even pick up some ideas for this years Yard of Terror...You never know!

Other than planning for our trip to Transworld we have been busy drawing up the plans for this years haunt. The room ideas/names for the haunt will most likely be told first, then I will reveal the proposed layout for this years haunt. The Yard of Terror is doing a "Number 13" theme this year with 13 rooms of terror! The monsters can't wait to unleash their fury on our guests as they venture through our 13 rooms of terror!

We have also posted our 2010 & 2011 Yard of Terror Videos on our YouTube page if you would like to check them out! We would love to hear your comments on what you thought about our yard haunt.

Halloween cookies in January? Yes that's right! The Yard of Terror Crew decided to make a batch of Halloween cookies given to me by my Mother. God Bless my Mother, I love her to death! She has been going through some hard times being in and out of the hospital lately with breathing difficulties. She just had to give her yard haunt crew some Halloween cookies to bake :) She is doing fine now and is out of the hospital resting at home. Hey good cookies by the way...Thanks Mom!

If you have any questions or comments about our blog, or the Yard of Terror feel free to email us at yardofterror@gmail.com

What is the Yard of Terror? (Post 2_1/4/12)

Hello Haunters,

I would like to start by saying Thank You to everyone who viewed the Yard of Terror's first Blog Post! I am very excited about how many people came to this site! You guys ROCK!

The Yard of Terror has been going on since 2007. Started by a guy named Shawn Boswell "Hey that's me! :)". The Yard of Terror has a small crew of people known as the "Terror Crew" that help set up and run the yard haunt every year on Halloween night. These people ROCK! Without their help the Yard of Terror would be known as the Yard of Trouble...YUCK!

Growing up I have always loved Halloween and haunted houses. I even decided to get into the haunted house business myself at the age of 14 as a volunteer actor at a haunted house, and have done it every year since then. After working at a haunted house for so long I thought to my self "how cool would it be to run my very own haunted house?" And that's when it hit me!

I had just turned 18, and going out Trick-or-Treating was starting to get old. Our neighborhood has always had lots of trick-or-treaters so I knew I would have a heck of a crowd show up, so that's when I decided to open the Yard of Terror!

The Yard of Terror is located in a small neighborhood in Hillview, KY. The yard haunt takes places at my Fathers home every year. My Father loves Halloween just like his son. Without my Father Yard of Terror would have never got started, Thank You Dad! Each year he loves to get his costume on and help me scare the crap out of all the kids and even adults that decide to venture into the Yard of Terror! The Yard of Terror continues to grow year after year and I hope this continues!

Below I have posted a photo collection of the Yard of Terro over the past few years so that you may get a peak at what the yard of Terror is all about!

If you have any questions or comments about our blog, or the Yard of Terror feel free to post them in the comments section below.

Till Next Time, Happy Haunting!
